Not your grandma’s knitting patterns

I’ve recently strained my hand from knitting too much (honestly it’s the worst problem to have) so to stop myself from knitting and making the problem worse, I have been browsing knitting patterns and making longer lists of things to make. I’ve been really vibing with a few creators and their edgier designs so I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorites.

1. James Watts – Pure Mesh Pullover

Any pattern by James Watts is going to be colorful and delightful and bananas and awesome. This pattern is next on my list as soon as I can start knitting again and after I finish a pair of wool slippers that my toes desperately need. I’m just obsessed with the idea of going to a rave in a hand knit fishnet top. It sounds way more comfortable than making a diy one out of synthetic pantyhose.

2. Lydia Morrow – Curio Collar

I adore the funky wearable clown vibes this collar gives. It’s fun, it’s whimsical, and you can play around with color combinations to make it your own. 10/10

3. Stephen West – Aurora Cabin Shawl

I’m not sure I have the willpower to complete any of Stephen West’s shawls, but they are jaw droppingly gorgeous. The way he plays with color and texture and pattern is like none other. And of course they’re all massive and fingering weight, but I still lust over his designs anyway.

4. Andrea Arts – The Space Face

This one is kind of a wild card for me. I don’t know anything about this designer because they have no other designs, but I found this top while browsing Ravelry and I’m kind of in love. It reminds me very much of some early 90s media but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

5. Disco Stitch – Love Magick Dress

If I ever knitted a dress it would be this one. Love those sleeves. Live for those sleeves. I’m very excited to see what Disco Stitch comes out with in the future as I’m quite interested in all their designs, but I feel like they’ll release something incredible that I will want to start knitting immediately. It feels very The Love Witch with its pretty modern bright color palette and 60s/70s silhouettes.

I hope this list inspires you as much as it inspired me. Still fiending to do some knitting unfortunately, but once this injury heals everyone I know will get sick of me talking about yarn weights and knitting techniques, etc. 🌼
