Long time no update, eh? Well I’ve been busy. We had a lovely new years with friends (and won the “bring something to take a picture with” contest by literally bringing a toy camera from the thrift store) and I’ve finally felt the bug to just make stuff.
I finally picked up this table from my in law’s barn. It was covered in cobwebs and mildew spots and the table leafs were all different colors. I sanded it all down and stained it with a new-to-me color, special walnut.
I have 5 projects cut out and in various stages of progress on the table. Bonus points to my new table for being big enough for both storage and working now, I’m obsessed. (I also bought a bigger cutting mat so I don’t have to get on the floor to cut out fabric as much). One of my projects I’m currently working on is a birthday present for my partner, which I’m pretty excited about.
Now on to the finished projects. One I’m super happy with, the other is kind of a monumental fail. This one I liked enough to share on instagram. I’ve been obsessed with loose fit dresses to stay warm and cozy in during this major cold snap we’re dealing with. I have been organizing my patterns and realized the Adria crop top by Seamwork was the perfect bodice for the dress I wanted. I just raised the waistline an inch and changed the v neck to a round neck (not a huge fan of the original v neck tbh). And yes, it does indeed have pockets.
Conversely, I made this fail 😦 the worst part is that it’s actually some of my better stitching and finishing I’ve done and I was so intentional about fabric choice and placement. Unfortunately I tried to slim down the Helen’s Closet Arden pants for a more fitted look but gravely miscalculated how much I was taking off the sides and now I have a very well made pair of uncomfortable pants. Womp womp.
Ah well. I have found three pants patterns as options for my personal redemption. I recently watched fellow Hoosier Abby Cox’s video on athleisure and I’m now fully inspired to make comfortable house clothes out of completely natural materials (besides the thread because I’m not a sociopath). Wish me luck 🌼
