I’ve become obsessed with Instagram challenges this year, as I’ve learned during the pandemic that I require deadlines to get anything done. The Make 9 Challenge is super flexible but basically you pick 9 projects to get done over the course of the year and for me it helps to prioritize a handful of projects over all my random ideas.
1. Quilted 1950s housecoat from VintagePatternsSewBI on Etsy – this one is in progress, so it should get done eventually hopefully. I just really need to get on top of all the cabbage I’ve accumulated, but piecing this much fabric is way more exhausting than I thought.
2. Vogue V1669 1949 Coat – I bought the perfect buttons for this on my trip to Salem last year, so now I have to find the perfect black wool and some fun lining fabric and then actually make this.
3. Scroop Patterns Augusta Stays – I’m starting my dream 18th century project this year and no one can stop me. The fabric is a cotton/linen shirt I almost donated, but decided it needed to be made into something. It’s such a lovely floral design, I just couldn’t get rid of it.
4. Patternmaking for Fashion Design – Since I originally posted this on instagram, I’ve decided to draft a 70s high waist maxi dress in a lovely floral rayon. This may be my birthday dress this year.
5. Tilly and the Buttons Eden raincoat – I bought this waterproof fabric years and years ago for a Coraline inspired raincoat and I never made it. Indiana has become a rainforest basically, so it’s kind of necessary now.
6. V&A Museum Mary Quant Spam dress (this is a free pattern btw) – I had this terrible idea and now I can’t stop myself because I keep thinking about it. It might be terrible and then I won’t post it lol
7. Gertie Picnic Blouse (from Patreon) – I found these 1 yard scraps in a basement and plan to overdye the stains during my natural dye journey.
8. Made by Rae Trillium – I found 6 yards of this pink fabric at Goodwill for 5 bucks and I’m still proud of that find. It’s too much for this dress, but I’m thinking I’ll add a gathered piece to the bottom
9. 40s Shirt Dress from MyVintageWish on etsy – I plan on making this for the #wwiisewingchallenge on instagram and trying to follow rationing rules. Fabric is from A Thrifty Notion
